2. Reduce plastic consumption
Since plastic began to be mass produced in the 1950s, approximately 6,300 million tonnes have been thrown away. And with only 9% of the world's plastic waste recycled, these items quickly accumulate in landfills and oceans.
It can be hard to imagine running a property without plastic. After all, plastic items like water bottles, mini toiletries, and straws have been part of the standard setup for decades. Customers have also become addicted to these practical and 'safe' items - with the shiny plastic packaging signaling freshness, novelty and cleanliness in unfamiliar surroundings.
The good news is that properties of all shapes and sizes are already shifting to sustainable alternatives - and it is working. From bamboo straws to stainless steel or glass water bottles, new solutions are changing old habits in the hospitality industry, proving that it's possible for guests and owners to adapt.
Plastic takes up to 1000 years to decompose - We can use, dispose of and forget about our single use plastic items, but most of them will outlive all of us for a long time. From straws and agitators with a lifespan of 200 years, to plastic bottles at 450 years, to plastic bags at a whopping 1000 years. This harms wildlife, damages terrestrial ecosystems and puts microplastics into the food chain.
Here are some solutions we have adopted:
Use refillable dispensers for toiletries instead of individual bottles
Replace plastic or polystyrene cups with durable and versatile cups
Replace bottled water with high quality, potable tap water. This is the water from the secular source of Groseau at the foot of Mont Ventoux

How to adopt sustainable practices
Your little actions can help the planet

.1.Limit your water consumption
In the years and decades to come, fresh water will become increasingly scarce. By 2030, demand for fresh water is expected to be40% higher than the available offer . These devastating projections call for action now.
Did you know that laundry can beup to 30% of the total environmental impact of our property ? This figure takes into account our water consumption, our electricity consumption and pollution from the detergents we use. This is before taking into account the annual water consumption in the rooms, which can vary from 18,000,000 liters in temperate climates to well over 121,000,000 liters in tropical environments.
When it comes to reducing that impact, asking guests to reuse towels or not to clean isn't new to the hospitality industry.
This is why we have been adopting this attitude for several years and also in our garden.
Our garden is a dry garden. This type of garden is mainly intended to be installed in the Mediterranean basin, but not only. It is an answer to a climate or soil problem when a traditional garden is difficult to achieve and so as not to consume water. It is a modern approach to gardening, in which we try to limit inputs such as water or fertilizers. This is an ecological approach.

A dry garden looks like a scrubland. There are all the Mediterranean species, such as myrtle, strawberry tree, oak, cistus, pine, cypress or olive tree. And also many aromatic plants: lavender, thyme, rosemary, savory ...
